Arsenic is a major concern in the water quality scenario of West Bengal especially in the districts of – Nadia, Malda, Murshidabad & North 24 Paraganas although a few pockets in the districts of Howrah, Hooghly, Bardhhaman & South 24 Paraganas are also affected by Arsenic. The Public Health Engineering Department, Govt. of West Bengal being very serious about Arsenic Mitigation have installed Arsenic cum Iron Removal Plants in the Districts of Nadia, Malda, Murshidabad & North 24 Paraganas in collaboration with various state & national level universities.
The Arsenic cum Iron Removal Plants (AIRP) are designed to remove Arsenic & Iron from ground water. The functioning of these plants needs constant monitoring on a day to day basis to ensure the clarity of output water, as these plants are situated in remote and isolated areas which are far away from conventional water testing laboratories regular monitoring becomes impossible.
The ‘Onsite Mobile Analysis Kit (OMAS)’ is the only solution to the problem. Sunanda has successfully supplied OMAS kit and consumables to 60 such AIRPs all over the state of West Bengal. The OMAS kit set being self-sustained and robust can easily be used and kept in field conditions and can be used in a daily basis to test water samples from various purification stages of the AIRPs with the highest possible accuracy.
The experts at Sunanda have successfully trained field level operators at the AIRPs to use the OMAS kit accurately and the operators are provided with technical assistance whenever they need.
